The Humane Society International (HSI)
says the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act should be amended to provide the pest species committee with more powers.
"With many of Australia's native species already under threat from feral cats, HSI is bewildered as to how the federal government could even consider allowing the import of a hybrid supercat to be sold as pets in Australia," the society's Australian spokeswoman Dannielle Annese said in a statement.
