JFK Airport cats: the latest November 19
Fight Against JFK Cat Extermination Program Goes On
from Neighborhood Cats
[excerpt]
THE LATEST (November 19, 2007)
Scores of demonstrators gathered in the cold and rain on November 15 at the headquarters of Port Authority of NY and NJ to loudly protest for the second time the ongoing campaign to exterminate all cats on the grounds of JFK Airport. Leaders of the protest later directly addressed the agency's Board of Commissioners, demanding (1) a permanent halt to the trapping, (2) lifting of the feeding ban, and (3) implementation of a one-year pilot Trap-Neuter-Return program. (See partial transcript of comments as reported on WNYC public radio) The extermination plan has been strongly criticized by both animal welfare experts as inhumane and ineffective (See Letter to the Editor, NY Post, by Ed Sayres, President, ASPCA.)
