November 7-13, 2004:
National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week (NASAW)
HSUS - Programs - Companion Animals - Animal Sheltering Online
[Excerpts]
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is gearing up for this year’s National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, which takes place November 7-13, 2004. This event is designed to help you reach out to your community and highlight the truly lifesaving work done by animal shelters like yours around the country.
Since this year’s celebration follows the presidential election, The HSUS has created a special election-theme flyer with the slogan “Elect to Adopt” to promote the great animals your organization has for adoption. The flyer features the adorable Mutts® characters—created by the talented Patrick McDonnell—at their political best! Download and print the flyer to post at your shelter and around your community.

Humane solutions exist
In regard to the article in the Oct. 24 World-Herald on feral cats, a big problem would be partly solved by spaying and neutering them. There is an overpopulation because non-neutered and unspayed cats produce at an alarming rate.
A trap-neuter-return program is another humane solution. A national organization, Alley Cat Allies, started the program in the United States.
