The American Bird Conservancy's (ABC) Cats Indoors! Campaign has updated their "Fact" Sheets (see left menu bar) and announced winners of the 2004 Keep Your Cat Indoors Day Poster Competition

[Feral Cat Blog! Note: The new Cats Indoors! "Getting the Facts about Cat Law" "fact" sheet cites as before Santa Rosa (CA) legislation for mandatory spay/neuter by owners of cats that roam. Interesting comments about this appear on Cat Out Loud. In checking research from my files plus Santa Rosa's current codes/ordinances, the ordinance went into effect in 1992 (from Killing the Crisis, Not the Animal: A Blueprint for Passing a Lifesaving Ordinance by Kim Sturla) but was repealed in 2001 at which time it was replaced with a requirement to spay/neuter impounded cats. I called the City of Santa Rosa to confirm. There are ordinances that require spay/neuter of outdoor cats in Riverside County (unincorporated areas) and Petaluma CA and El Dorado, AS.
For those unaware, the Cats Indoors! Campaign promotes keeping cats indoors (a very good thing when possible) but does not make provision for millions of homeless cats. One suggestion is that the public humanely trap and take stray cats to local shelters.
Unfortunately not stated -- a majority of cats may be killed or not accepted at many public and private shelters.]
