Deadly virus strain affecting cats

NEW BERN - A new and deadly strain of Feline Calicivirus, a respiratory virus affecting only cats, has been detected in a small number of animals in North Carolina.
"This is not an epidemic," he said. "It's a very focal outbreak in a very confined group of animals."

Payson is considering changing its animal ordinances, including easing the muzzle rule for dogs and the leash law for cats.
Police Chief Dee Rowland requested the change, saying the cat leash law is "impossible to enforce" and takes time and resources away from other priorities. It was not clear whether a new law would allow cats to roam freely; the City Council has asked city staff to study the issue.
